Welcome to Military Global Leadership Academy:
Dear Parents,
I would like to welcome students and parents to the 2016-17 school year. A new school year presents opportunities for exciting beginnings - new teachers, new classmates, new rooms, new books, and new materials. I cannot think of a more exciting time of year. I would like to extend a special "welcome" to the new students and their families that have recently moved to our district.
Class content:
This year, students will be introduced to critical thinking across genres, cultures, and time in order to analyze and interpret complex, grade appropriate texts, resources, and ideas. Students will be able to identify and use essential elements of literary and informational texts. Students will be able to use tools used to create style in writing and use specific words, phrases, sentences, paragraphs, stanzas, chapters, scenes in a text.
Global connections:
For the first quarter, students will read a variety of books that makes a global connection. Students will also have access to English Language Arts NEWSELA.com. for daily topic discussions.
Student Expectations:
*Come to class on time.
*Prepared and ready for the day.
*Participate in class to the best of your ability.
*Maintain a personal standard of academic ethics. (no cheating, copying, or plagiarizing)
*Communicate with parents/guardians about their progress in ELA.
*Do your best at all times...remember you're in it to win it!!
Required materials:
Students will need their reading and writing notebooks, pencils, pocket folders, Data Trackers, and agendas.
Daily Preparation and communication:
Before entering the classroom, students must use the restroom. Students will not be allowed to use the restroom during instruction unless there is an emergency. Students must make sure that they have all materials needed for that day. Every morning students will complete their morning work "Wheatley's Language" and "Dunbar's Journal" in their morning work journals.
Grading Criteria:
In accordance with the policy at MGLA, the letter grades along with the corresponding numerical grades are listed below:
90-100 (A) 80-89 (B) 70-79 (C) 60-69 (D) 0-59 and below (F)
The classroom grade for each term is broken down as follows: (This is subject to change based on changes to school/department policy.)
*Formal Grades: (Test, quizzes, and projects)
*Informal Grades: (Classwork, homework, and class participation)
Parents will be notified immediately of any changes made to the grading procedure. Grades will be based on the point system.
Tutoring Schedule:
Every Tuesday before and after school as needed.
